Sovereign Tower Act 2 Murder: How to Stop It

Why this one question dominates

Search interest in the Act 2 murder outran every other Sovereign Tower topic in the weeks after launch, and both Google Trends windows show it as a breakout term. That is not because it is obscure. It is because the game hands you a death, a suspect, and a rewind button, and then declines to tell you which of the three you are supposed to use.

Two achievements sit on this thread: A Traitor (find who the traitor is) and True Noble Soul (make Gwendan overcome his personal issues).

The route most players report

The version that comes up most consistently across player accounts:

  1. Let the first murder happen. Do not intervene.
  2. Refuse the Crypt Demon’s rewind when it is offered immediately afterwards. This is the step people skip — the offer arrives at exactly the moment you most want to take it.
  3. Send the murderer himself to investigate the murder.

Step three is the trick, and it is why this reads as a puzzle rather than a stat check. The investigation is a quest assignment like any other, and the game does not stop you from assigning the wrong person to it.

The other documented approach

Dismiss Gwendan before the murder happens. The Act 2 murder is entangled with Gwendan’s debt thread — send him away over his debts and the sequence does not play out the same way. He is also the only knight documented as returning after being dismissed, with a new look, which is what makes this survivable rather than a straight loss of a knight.

Choosing between the two routes is really a choice about what you are optimising for. Route one keeps the roster intact and takes the achievement. Route two protects the victim at the cost of a knight for part of the run.

What is not confirmed

Neither route comes from the developer. Both are player reports, and the community discussion includes a thread titled “murder resolution bugged?” — so at least some players are hitting states these routes do not resolve cleanly.

This site is not going to state a single definitive method for a story branch that the studio has not documented and that this site cannot test. What is above is what players have reported working, attributed as such.

The wider point about rewinds

The Crypt Demon’s offer after the murder is the clearest example of what the rewind mechanic is actually for. It presents itself as an undo button. It works better as a scouting tool — you take the bad outcome, learn the shape of the sequence, and then decide whether to spend a rewind on it with information you did not have the first time.

Every rewind costs one point of corruption, and corruption is read back at the end of the run: zero rewinds and the demon epilogue does not play, one to nineteen gets the lighter version, twenty or more adds a darker second one. Spending one here is cheap. Spending twelve here is a different ending. How the demon epilogue works →

The Act 2 murder is not the only investigation in the game. The Enberg murder trial is a separate sequence in a different county, and it is the one that decides whether you end up with Victoria or Gothild — the two are mutually exclusive. If you searched for “who is the killer” and landed here but the trial you are stuck on is in Enberg, that is the other one.
