Sovereign Tower Demon Power: Rewinds, Cycles and Corruption

What the demon is for

You struck a deal with a demon. That is the first achievement in the game — How Could that Go Wrong — and it is the mechanic the entire structure hangs off.

The demon rewinds time. What most players work out slowly is that this is not an undo button, it is a scouting tool. Quest cards hide part of their requirement wheel behind question marks until you have attempted or scouted them. A failed timeline tells you what was behind those marks. You come back knowing the check you could not see.

Played that way, a rewind is information you paid for. Played as an undo, it is a habit that quietly rewrites your ending.

What each rewind costs

One point of corruption. That is the whole accounting. There is no bar for it on screen, no warning, and no way to spend it back down.

At the end of the run, after the main ending and before the character send-offs, a separate demon epilogue reads that number:

Rewinds usedWhat plays
0Nothing at all
1–19The lighter version
20 or moreThe lighter version, and then a second, darker one

The exception: Tower Destruction skips it entirely, along with the character slides. That ending ends the run at the next cycle transition with no epilogues at all.

Two achievements pull in opposite directions

It’s Rewind Time! wants you to use the demon’s power ten times before reaching the end. Ten sits comfortably inside the 1–19 band, so this achievement does not force you into the dark epilogue.

There is also an achievement for finishing without using demon power at all — a run where the epilogue never plays. Those two are separate runs by definition.

Cycles, and the number nobody agrees on

Cycles are the turn counter. Each cycle you hear petitions, then assign knights to quests, and the quests run for a stated duration in cycles — though there is an achievement for completing one that ran longer than its initial duration, so treat the stated number as an estimate.

How many cycles a run lasts is genuinely unsettled:

  • An official screenshot shows the interface displaying “Targeted Cycle: 40” on a save that was at cycle 32.
  • A published guide places the Emperor’s ultimatum at cycle 45.

Those have not been reconciled, and the on-screen target may move with the run rather than being fixed. Plan your last stretch by the counter on your own screen, not by a number from a guide — this one included.

Consumables can buy you cycle time

Belladonna’s shop sells consumables that trade one stat against another, and some of them carry a cycle duration reduction. The Energy Beverage is AGI +1, WIT −1, with a cycle duration reduction of 1, at 65 gold. Prices in that shop run roughly 50 to 150 gold.

That is worth knowing near the end of a run, when the constraint stops being gold and starts being cycles remaining before the ultimatum.

How the demon interacts with your archetype

There is an open community question about whether demon power affects your sovereign archetype scores. This site cannot resolve it — no official statement exists, and the ending data only shows corruption feeding the demon epilogue, not the archetype gate.

What is documented: the archetype gate reads your four sovereign style scores, and the demon epilogue reads corruption. They are separate readings taken at the same moment. Which archetype unlocks which ending →

The practical version

  • Rewind to learn, not to erase. The information survives; the cost is one point.
  • Stay under 20 unless you want the darker epilogue. Ten is the achievement number and it is safe.
  • A zero-rewind run is its own achievement and its own kind of hard, since several recruits are gated behind things going wrong.
  • Watch the on-screen cycle target, not a number from a guide.
